Material Language

Rooted
in Mauritius.

Mauritius is a volcanic island, rich in dense dark basalt. Across the project the stone was worked in different finishes: matte flooring, textured cladding and polished surfaces.

Wenge, rattan and warm natural tones complete an understated, tactile and unmistakably tropical palette.

Reception

Dense volcanic basalt was used in different finishes throughout the reception, while a minimalist wenge reception desk steps back, leaving the true welcome to the Indian Ocean beyond.

Basalt · Wenge · Ocean

The landscape becomes the welcome.

Matte basalt underfoot and restrained dark wenge establish the architectural frame without interrupting the sightline toward the Indian Ocean.

Renovated Guest Rooms

Warmth & restraint

Dark wenge, rattan seating and dark basalt floors form a contemporary palette built on warmth — understated, tactile and unmistakably tropical.

Ocean-facing Rooms

Interior meets horizon.

Wenge wood headboards anchor warm neutrals while floor-to-ceiling glazing dissolves the boundary to the beach. Chocolate, cream and bronze allow the ocean view to remain the room's central presence.

New Guest Rooms

Quiet tropical symmetry.

Dark wenge, rattan seating and mahogany floors create an understated tropical palette. Twin vessel basins float above dark cabinetry, while travertine-toned walls and warm sconces trade brightness for calm.

Sushi Bar

A thatched pavilion floats above a still reflecting pool, with glowing spheres drifting across the water like lanterns at dusk.

Bamboo screens and open teak decking blur inside and out, framing sunset views over an ocean-facing horizon.

Japanese restraint.

Dark wenge and white stone alternate in clean rhythmic bands. Straight lines and quiet contrast allow the glass display and its colourful sushi to become the counter's only protagonist.

Existing Restaurant

Local craft,
renewed.

Reclaimed Mauritian doors were whitewashed and given new life across the buffet counters. Dense volcanic basalt appears polished on the countertop, honed underfoot and textured across the base beneath soaring thatched ceilings.

05 / 05 · Cigar Lounge & Bar

After dark.

Volcanic basalt continues through the social spaces in three different finishes — glossy at the countertop, matte on the floor and textured across the counter structure. Restored traditional Mauritian doors complete the material language.
